Discover the wonderful wildlife that emerges as the sun sets at Tyland Barn. A lot of wildlife only becomes active as the sun sets, and this is certainly the case at Tyland Barn. Embrace the darkness and join Kent Wildlife Trust’s experts as they demonstrate various techniques for wildlife spotting after dark. As you explore the nature park you’ll have the chance to use a bat detector to find the hotspots for activity and try to identify which species you have heard.
Our Area Wardens Rosemary and Rob will demonstrate how to set up lamps in the pond for wildlife spotting, and you’ll have the opportunity to help them set up a selection of moth traps. They’ve both been moth trapping for years, and will share their knowledge of different trapping techniques along with advice, hints and tips to get the best results.
The following morning you’ll return to Tyland Barn to empty the traps and try your hand at moth identification, with expert guidance from Rob and Rosemary. There will be plenty of time to settle down with a hot drink and work your way through the traps, practicing and developing your identification skills as you go. This experience will run between 9pm and approximately 10.30-11pm on Tuesday 27 May, and 8.30-10.30am on Wednesday 28 May.
