Trosley Country Park Lop from Addington

24th June 2025

Join us on our walk from The George Inn Car Park in Addington, as we make our way towards Coldrum Long Barrow, a remarkable Neolithic burial site dating back over 5,000 years. Thought to be the best-preserved megalithic tomb in Kent, Coldrum offers a rare and atmospheric glimpse into the lives—and beliefs—of our prehistoric ancestors. The name ‘Coldrum’ may even have Saxon origins, hinting at the long continuity of human presence in the area.

We’ll continue along the Wealdway, a scenic long-distance footpath winding through the Kent countryside. Our route passes through Whitehorse Wood, a tranquil stretch of ancient woodland that supports a variety of birds, plants, and wildlife.

From there, we head into Trosley Country Park, once part of the Trosley Towers Estate. In the 19th century, this land was privately owned by Sir Sydney Waterlow, who laid out ornamental gardens and woodlands. Today, it’s a peaceful nature reserve known for chalk grassland habitats and sweeping views.

A definite highlight of the walk is our stop at Holly Hill, where we’ll take in spectacular panoramic views across the Kent Downs National Landscape, that showcases some of the best chalk ridge scenery in England.

We’ll finish the walk where we started—with a well-earned drink at The George Inn. This historic village pub dates back to the 18th century and has long been a gathering spot for locals and walkers alike. With its traditional charm, good food, and local ales, it’s the perfect place to relax and round off the day.

The walk starts promptly on time. If you’re running a bit behind schedule, give us a call to inform us.

Friendly dogs are welcome! Please ensure they’re leashed when needed, especially around fields with livestock. Owners are always fully responsible for their dogs.
