Open Faversham

24th May - 1st June 2025

An annual opportunity to celebrate Faversham's cultural and natural heritage.

Following the success of Open Faversham in 2023 and 2024, The Faversham Society expect it to be even bigger and better in 2025!  Now established as an annual opportunity to celebrate our town’s cultural and natural heritage. Open Faversham for 2025 takes place earlier than previous years over the course of 9 days from 24th May to 1st June when the aim will be to share Faversham's natural and cultural heritage with friends, family, and visitors.

In previous years, there were many activities for young people of school age and younger. This year, it is hoped there will be even more activities and events for young people.

The programme for this year is shaping up well. At the heart of the town in St Mary of Charity, the focus will be on Faversham at War and Railway Heritage. During Open Faversham, there will be a big screen at the front of the church to show film and still photographs to bring to life our town's history and space for exhibitions of drawings and maps

24th -27th May
Memories of War

2025 is the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and VJ Day at the end of World War II. Open Faversham will look at the involvement of Faversham in WWI, WWII and other military conflicts and to reflect on the impact it had on the town and community. Featuring exhibitions, memorabilia, maps, photographs and some wargamer layouts.

28th - 31st May
Railway Heritage

2025 is being celebrated as the 200th anniversary of the coming of the passenger railway to Britain. Open Faversham will celebrate Faversham's railway heritage, up and down the lines and the remarkable collection of railway buildings we have in the town, long overlooked.  Launching a new guided trail to include the branch line to Standard Quay, the Davington Light Railway, the Goods Shed, and the three footbridges, the water tower and of course, our listed railway station.

The Community Land Trust will be consulting people about the restoration of the Engine Sheds and what uses they might be put to. . The exhibitions will include images projected on the big screen., maps and memorabilia and we hope to have some model railway layouts.

The Kent Archaeological Society is planning a dig on the creekside, it will be interesting to see them at work and what they find.

Many events are planned for Open Faversham 2025 and information is added to the website as and when the details are finalised with organisers. There will also be some events that take place prior to or after the main Open Faversham week, and these are also added as and when they are finalised.

If you would like to be kept up-to-date about all upcoming Open Faversham Events please register with the Faversham Society for updates.  Your details will only be used for this purpose and will not be shared with any other organisation.  You can read the privacy policy here.

An illustrated Heritage Town Map can be found here which may be useful in locating some events.
