A historical walk on the Summer Solstice from Maidstone to Kit's Coty

21st June 2025

On the 21st of June, the Summer Solstice, we will be strolling from the outskirts of Maidstone to visit the neolithic site of Kits Coty and surrounding megaliths. The walk will start at Cobham Manor Carpark which is a paid car park. From the car park we will make our way through the park heading towards Little Kit’s Coty and Kit’s Coty itself then venture onto see the White Horse Stone. On the way back we will pass through fields and woods to visit the former site of Boxley Abbey and catch a look at Allington Castle on the banks of the River Medway as we walk back to our starting point Along the way we will hear tales of: dastardly Anglo-Saxon invaders, the Devil getting up to no good and some very dubious Saints. The walk will take approximately four and a half hours (around 11.4KM) with a lunch spot (lunch not included) of around half an hour and will cost £7 per person. Meeting time- 9:15am ready for a 9:30 start Terrain- we will be ascending the North Downs so it will get quite hilly in places.
