Tiller and Wheel CIC creates amazing experiences on the rivers and creeks of the Kent coast, connecting the public with the historic ships that used to ply their trade in the days of sail.

Step aboard a 100yr old Thames sailing barge and get stuck in for a Learning the Ropes session, or sit back and relax with a G&T on a Tidal Cruise. For the youngsters, we have our Little Skippers events and for those feeling more adventurous, sign up for an Estuary Explorer day, taking in the sights including the famous wreck of the bomb laden Richard Montgomery or the Red Sand Towers.

For those seeking excitement, you can join one of the barges on one of the historic Matches, where up to a dozen barges race for honours in a tradition dating back to 1863.

The old cargo holds make excellent venues, with up to 12 guests per barge accommodated on sailing trips and up to 40 for static events when alongside, including music nights, talks and film screenings.

The barges are available to book for private parties and events and are fantastic for team away days - you can even book multiple barges to recreate the excitement of a race!

Visit the website for more information and learn about our unique patron funding model where you can get introduced to sailing aboard these ships for free!
