Build a Boat! Row a Boat!

Cinque Ports Rowing is a Community Interest Company (not-for-profit) which was founded in January 2020 to build boats and row them as a community. Cinque Ports Rowing relies upon donations and funding from trusts and grants. Our community project is open to people from all backgrounds.

Children and adults from the age of 12 to 99+ are all welcome. The impact on individuals and communities is profound and lasting. It is changing lives, bringing people together socially and providing skills and challenges. The health benefits are enormous, both physical and mental.

Boatbuilding takes place throughout the year in the Purifier Building, which is on the creek at the back of Home Bargains off West Street. There is a dedicated group of boatbuilders of all ages, some coming after school. All benefit from learning new skills and growing self-confidence.

Cinque Ports Rowing is a community venture which is open to anyone to enjoy. We have four St Ayles Skiffs (a wooden, fixed-seat, four-person rowing boat) that were built at the Purifier, and we row them on Faversham Creek and beyond!

We row all year round, weather and tides permitting. On most rowing days, there will be a short row of about 20 minutes offered as well as longer, more challenging rows, and training in technique is offered. Full support and advice both on and off the water will be provided by Cinque Ports Rowing, who will also supply the cox and life jackets.

The skiffs can be towed to different locations to take part in races in the rest of the UK. We have taken part in the Carrow Cup (the oldest rowing race in England) in Norwich and the Great River Race in London, and hope to do lots more!

We plan to introduce Adaptive Rowing for those who have mobility issues. The wider vision is to inspire and help other towns in the South East of England to start up similar projects. Come and join us!

The Isle of Sheppey and Faversham - Where the wild coast begins

There is nowhere quite like The Isle of Sheppey and Faversham. Wild marshes stretch to the horizon. Seals haul out on mudflats within sight of the shore. The beaches are long, sweeping and blissfully quiet; the skies enormous.

Date night plans

Fairy tale castes, winding streets, and romantic retreats…call us biased, but we happen to think our county has some rather perfect date night locations.
