TrAles of the Unexpected invites you to immerse yourself in local captivating history, while savouring the finest Kentish ales on our unique walking beer adventures known as TrAles.

Step into the rich tapestry of Deal’s history with the Town TrAle, a leisurely stroll through the captivating narratives and charming landscapes of this historic coastal town. Delve into the intriguing past of Deal, once a thriving mining town, a strategic garrison, and a vibrant hub of maritime activity. Meander along the backstreets, where echoes of Deal’s past linger at every turn. Discover the remnants of its mining heritage, the echoes of its naval presence, and the whispers of this once-flourishing port, now a serene backdrop to its tranquil atmosphere.

Or embark on a captivating journey to the heart of Dover with an immersive exploration along the scenic River Dour. This 4-mile TrAle takes you through a vibrant tapestry of history, natural beauty, and local charm, tracing the river’s path from its source to where it meets the sea. Dover owes its very existence to the River Dour, which carved through the iconic white cliffs to create the town’s natural harbour. As you traverse this picturesque watercourse, you’ll uncover remnants of historic industrial sites powered by this small but mighty river. These sites were once bustling with activity, producing flour, paper, and ale. The trail culminates in the town of Dover, where you’ll stroll along riverside paths until the Dour merges into the sea.

A key element of these TrAles is an appreciation of Kent’s brewing heritage, offering numerous opportunities to sample a range of carefully curated local real ales and craft beers in pubs and taprooms. For those who do not consume beer, there are ample alternative refreshments available.

Be prepared to expect the unexpected.

Discover the Cross-Channel Geopark

The Cross-Channel Geopark is the world's first transnational geopark to span a body of water, linking the chalk landscapes of Kent with those of northern France in one continuous geological story. From the White Cliffs of Dover and the Kent Downs to the dramatic cliffs of Cap Blanc-Nez, the same chalk layers, fossils, and flint bands run beneath the Strait of Dover, connecting two countries that were once, quite literally, joined.
