‘Street Dance the Maypole’ workshops with Folk Dance Remixed
Folk Dance Remixed is a fresh, quirky, colourful and magical collision of traditional and Hip Hop dance and music, led by Artistic Directors Kerry Fletcher and Natasha Khamjani. Folk Dance Remixed rediscover old traditions through contemporary forms and take them out on the streets through performances, including ‘Street Dance the Maypole’ workshops.
Take part in a ‘Street Dance the Maypole’ workshop, creating wraps ‘n ripples mixed with waves ‘n breaks around a contemporary-designed, bespoke ribboned, 12-foot freestanding maypole. A chance to learn a funky routine to live music, mixing it with classic maypole moves, such as the Chrysanthemum Wrap and the Twister.
Free workshops will take place throughout the afternoon at Folk Lore Kent’s Mayhem Fair, in Dane John Gardens.
The event is part of Canterbury Unlocked, a city-wide celebration.
