St Mary's Church, stands right in the centre in the historic medieval town of Sandwich, the site may be the oldest church site in Sandwich as a 7th-century convent was founded in exactly the same spot, however nothing of this period has survived today.Â
Today, there remains substantial parts of a large Norman church, despite the town having been scaked by the French in the 13th and 15th centuries. The Church has also survived a huge earthquake in the 16th century followed by a collapse of the tower in the 17th! St Mary's is still standing tall today and I doubt there would be much that would defeat it.Â
There are many different interesting fittings from several periods in time to discover inside the church which also has disabled access and toilets.Â
As this church has a prime location within the centre of town it's congregation is large and hosts a variety of different events throughout the year.Â
