Walmer Castle, Kingsdown Road Deal CT14 7LJ

Built in 1539 by Henry VIII to deal with any threat of invasion from the English Channel, Walmer Castle went on to serve as a rural retreat for distinguished public figures, including Pitt the Younger, Wellington, Churchill, and the Queen Mother. From Spring 2015, the castle inside has been completely reimagined, bringing history to life with a new look at the castle and its distinguished inhabitants.

Garden Cottage sleeps four and overlooks the enclosed kitchen garden, which has supplied the castle with vegetables and flowers for over 300 years. If you feel like venturing beyond the castle gates there are spectacular walks and cycle paths along the beach front to nearby Deal Castle.

While staying here, guests can also have free access the castle’s eight acres of beautiful gardens out of hours, as well as free entry to all English Heritage properties throughout your stay.
