Canterbury's Medieval Pageant and Family Trail

6th July 2024

Fanfares at the ready as we welcome a colourful parade featuring Henry II and Queen Eleanor, knights on horseback, warriors, pilgrims, musicians, dancers and giants, celebrating 850 years since Henry’s visit to Canterbury!

For the first time, the Medieval Pageant will finish in the Cathedral’s Precinct where King Henry will make his official apology. Take a look at the trail route HERE.

After the parade, it’s time to explore – grab your trail leaflet and head off on a special journey around medieval Canterbury. There are 20 different locations offering a range of activities where you can meet medieval soldiers, silversmiths and so much more! When you visit, have your trail leaflet stamped.

Collect at least 5 stamps and receive a FREE giant chocolate coin at the Cathedral Shop in the Buttermarket.

Canterbury Cathedral will be keeping its grounds open as part of the celebrations, with free entry to the Precinct from 9am-9pm, and lots of free activities to enjoy. These include crown and mitre making, the chance to carve and keep your own mason mark, and the first ever ‘carve-off’ between two of the Cathedral’s stonemasons.

The Medieval Pageant and Family Trail is for children of all ages…even Middle Ages!

This event is brought to you by Canterbury Business Improvement District with UKSPF funding through Canterbury City Council, supported by Canterbury Cathedral.
