Kent is one of the UK's most accessible destinations, with excellent rail links from London and direct connections to mainland Europe. Our travel partners, Southeastern and LeShuttle, make it easy to reach the Garden of England and discover everything from historic cities and charming villages to spectacular coastlines and countryside.
Getting to and around Kent
By Train
Southeastern connects London to Kent from a wide variety of London stations. With highspeed services from London St Pancras, you can be at the coast in around an hour. Skip the hassle of parking and enjoy the countryside views as you head to explore the Garden of England.
Equally, Southern can bring you from Kent's neighbouring counties with connections to Rochester, Ashford and Tonbridge.
By Bus
For low-cost travel around Kent, try Stagecoach’s bus services. Stagecoach makes it easy to get to and from main towns and attractions including the iconic Canterbury Cathedral, blue flag beaches in Thanet, several nature reserves and the historical Dover Castle on the White Cliffs of Dover. Stagecoach operates primarily in the east and south of the county running over 55 bus routes around Ashford, Canterbury, the Dover & Deal area, Faversham, Sittingbourne and Maidstone, the Folkestone & Hythe area, Herne Bay, Whitstable and Thanet.
Covering town centres and rural villages across Gravesend, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Medway, Arriva's extensive bus network makes exploring North and West Kent simple.
Travel with Southeastern Railway
Kent is one of the UK's best-connected destinations by rail, with Southeastern operating services linking London, Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, Margate and Ramsgate.
Travelling from Europe?
As the closest point to mainland Europe (21 miles at the nearest point to be exact!), Kent is also well placed for visitors travelling from the continent. Taking just 35 minutes, LeShuttle carry visitors under the channel every day providing the quickest way to cross into Kent from Calais. Alternatively, ferry operators DFDS, Irish Ferries and P&O Ferries offer longer crossing by sea, meaning you can watch the White Cliffs as you arrive.
