Jeremy Clarke will deliver this fascinating talk, setting shipboard confinement into context by looking at the arrival of POWs onto the Medway during the Revolutionary Wars and tracing the later link between the convict hulks and the sentence of transportation, including the unfortunates from Faversham and surrounding villages.

We will explore a range of resources, including ship registers, transportation records, Home Office petitions and artefacts on display at the Guildhall Museum, Rochester.
