The beautiful Georgian house of Belmont, set in its own parkland amid the Kent countryside, is a completely unspoilt and distinctive example of the work of the architect Samuel Wyatt. General (Later Lord) Harris bought the house at a public auction in 1801, using his share of prize money following the defeat of Tipu Sultan at the Battle of Seringapatam in 1799.

Belmont houses objects that reflect 6 generations of continuous occupation by one family, containing wonderful mementos of the family's history and travels - paintings, photograph albums, furniture, beautiful Indian and English silverware along with one of the finest private collections of clocks and watches in Britain outside those in the national museums.

The Gardens, which in 2022 won a Gold Award for the South & South East in Bloom ‘Walled Garden’ of the year as well as the Chairman's Award 2021, are full of interest throughout every season; the Kitchen Garden originally designed by Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd, is a wonderful mix of traditional and modern gardening: a beautiful Victorian Greenhouse, figs pleached on the walls, arbours festooned in golden hops, and an abundance of soft fruits, traditional apples and pears along with a variety of vegetables grown for the House. The Walled Garden to the rear of the stable yard is another intimate enclosed garden with long borders of annuals and perennials.
