JAM on the Marsh

JAM on the Marsh returns to light up the south coast
Running from 6th – 16th July, JAM on the Marsh returns with a dazzling array of new and exciting events across Romney Marsh. The festival includes a world premiere by BBC Singers for broadcast on Radio 3, the sensational London Mozart Players, toe-tapping jazz with the David Rees-Williams trio, Latin-American groove, an open-air performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, 5 stunning free art and photography exhibitions and a 1-day mini festival for children packed with fun, music, art, theatre …. and bugs!

On Wednesday 12th July at Littlestone Golf Club (TN28 8RB), a Shakespeare play visits JAM on the Marsh for the first time. And what a Shakespeare play! Hamlet, possibly the Bard’s finest. Bring a chair, a rug and watch this wonderful play under the vast Marsh sky.

Hamlet is a young man with everything going for him. A wealthy prince; a successful student, living the good life overseas. But when word reaches him that his father is dead, his world starts to fall apart.

Returning home, he finds his mother has married his uncle, and his rightful succession to the throne has been snatched from under him. Everything in his universe has changed, and he struggles to understand it. Hamlet faces a difficult choice: to accept this new reality or to rebel against it.

Never out of season or fashion, Hamlet is a story of human mortality and struggle. A brilliant, relevant play for modern times.

At £15 a ticket, the audience will be treated to a unique night of theatre; Hamlet is rarely staged in the open air, let along under a vast Marsh sky. With a brilliant ensemble cast, original music, a unique atmosphere and infused with wit and dark humour, Changeling Theatre promises a Hamlet to remember.

In collaboration with Littlestone Golf Club and XIX café, food and drink will be available throughout the evening.

3 events are sold out with the others selling well. For full information about all the events in JAM on the Marsh, festival bus service and ticket booking, please go to www.jamconcert.org
