Festive Family Fun
The lights are up, the tinsel is out and Father Christmas is packing up the sleigh for a visit to Kent. It can all only mean one thing, the countdown to Christmas has officially begun. To make sure you don’t miss out on one second of ice skating, panto watching or visits to Santa, we have the inside scoop on the best of Christmas in Kent so you can make the most of festive family days out.
This year you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to fun-filled days out, from Dickensian markets and sparkling castles, to ice skating and festive train journeys!
Santa Claus is coming to town
This year Father Christmas and his elves will once again be making the journey from the North Pole to Bewl Water to save Christmas! Jump aboard the Santa Express on a Christmas mission from Santa’s lake-side grotto. At the Rare Breeds Centre elves will welcome visitors into Santa’s magical Grotto for fun and a visit to the man himself.
All aboard the Christmas Express
When it comes to festive firsts, it doesn’t get much more magical than a visit to Santa on a steam train. This year, Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, Kent and East Sussex Railway and Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway will all be welcoming Father Christmas on board during weekends throughout the season.
Have a historic Christmas
This year the fairytale Leeds Castle will be celebrating the traditions of Christmas with trees, roaring fires and state rooms dressed for the season. At Hever Castle the estate will be transformed around the history of Christmas Carols with decorations across the house and gardens and even a “twelve days of Christmas trail”. Or why not Visit the Canterbury Tales to find Father Christmas in the Middle Ages? Enjoy songs, games and dressing up before a visit to Santa’s grotto.
Lace up your skates and practice your pirouettes because Eastwell Manor’s outdoor ice skating rink is waiting. Or treat the kids to fun at Bluewater during the Christmas Shopping with its very own lake-side ice rink where you can twirl and glide the afternoon away. The Port of Dover will be enjoying a White Cliffs Christmas this year with a real ice rink, Christmas market and Santa and his reindeer! Dreamland transforms into the Frosted Fairground this season, filled with every Christmas trimming you can imagine!
You can’t have Christmas without a visit to the pantomime, oh no you can’t! At the Hazlitt Theatre, Cinderalla is this year’s Christmas pantomime, perhaps the most magical pantomime of them all! Or is it? At the Theatre Royal Margate Dorothy and the gang will be following that yellow brick road on a magical tale to the enchanted land of Oz.
