With a packed schedule of exhibitions, workshops and events going on this spring and summer, we've asked our friends at Turner Contemporary to give us a sneak peek at just some of the highlights. So whether you fancy learning about their upcoming programme of exhibitions, or the top family events for this spring and summer, read on.
From their annual art competition which celebrates local talent and encourages young people to find their creativity, to plenty of artistic resources to help combat the boredom, you can rest assured little creatives will find plenty to do during the school holidays.
Oustanding art
12 March – 19 June 2022
A very exciting exhibition will be opening in the gallery in the Spring. The first major solo exhibition by British-Ghanaian artist Larry Achiampong will include the newly commissioned feature-length film Wayfinder, which follows a young girl’s journey across England. Achiampong has also curated a display of paintings by JMW Turner and collaborated with Turner Contemporary to create a Gaming Room.
Weekend Workshops
Saturdays and Sundays from 19th March - 19th June 2022
If you’re looking for fun things to do at the weekend, Art Rebels is a great chance to get out of the house and get involved in family-fun workshops at the gallery. In these workshops, you’ll be able to create your personalised flag for the future which you can take home with you! Also, taking inspiration from the Gaming Room and informed by BAFTA Young Game Designers, you’ll be able to create the concept of your very own game, including characters and adventures!
All Art Rebels workshops are drop-in 1-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
School Holiday Activities
5th - 8th and 12th - 15th April, 1 - 4pm
During the Easter Holidays, add to an ever-growing collaborative gamescape by designing landscapes, characters and objects to animate. Each day there will be a different game brief to bring to life. This drop-in family activity has been informed by BAFTA Young Game Designers, an initiative that inspires and supports young people to create, develop and present their new game idea to the world.
