Rossini's The Barber of Seville - A whirlwind of love, wit and mischief.

Get ready for opera's ultimate feel-good comedy! Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville hits the stage in a whirlwind of brilliant disguises, breathless scheming, and unmatched vocal fireworks.

Count Almaviva falls head over heels in love when he sees the beautiful Rosina. But he is stymied by her curmudgeonly, controlling guardian, Dr. Bartolo, who wants her hand - and her fortune - for himself. Enter Figaro, the town's wily, fast-talking barber, who orchestrates a series of plots to outsmart the old doctor............

With high-octane energy and enchanting romantic duets, Merry Opera has created a deliciously mischievous show, sung in English (translation by Amanda Holden) by a cast of young professional opera singers directed by John Ramster. A perfect introduction for opera newcomers and a beloved staple for seasoned enthusiasts. Merry Opera returns to Sarah Thorne Theatre, Broadstairs following their sparkling 2026 production of Cosi fan tutte; we will be hosting The Barber of Seville on Sunday 7th March 2027, at 6.00pm.
