The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a unique, award winning maritime heritage destination with stunning Georgian and Victorian architecture, and exciting maritime galleries and attractions brought to life by costumed guides.
Make rope on the Victorian Ropery Tour; be gripped by stories of life aboard our Three Historic Warships, be absorbed by the sights, sounds and smells of the dockyard of 1758 recreated in the Wooden Walls of England and be inspired by the Royal Dockyard Museum, 3 Slip The BIG Space and the RNLI Historic Lifeboat Collection. Visit the beautiful Commissioner's garden for a little peace and quiet and allow the children to let off steam in the new Railway Workshop Picnic and Play indoor and outdoor adventure play areas.
New for 2010! No. 1 Smithery - a unique partnership between Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, National Maritime Museum and The Imperial War Museum, this new cultural venue and centre for world-class maritime collections is at the heart of The Historic Dockyard. An exciting fusion of museum, heritage and culture sees objects, artworks, and an historic industrial building come together to provide an inspiring and thought provoking mix.
The temporary exhibition gallery will provide a venue for world-class touring exhibitions, the first of which will be an exhibition of Stanley Spencer's breathtaking 'Shipbuilding on the Clyde' paintings.
The 'Courtyard' will be the home to an exciting programme of activities, including Pirate Play Days and Ghost Ships, Mysteries and Disasters!
