It came, we saw and had a huge party!
The Tour de France is the world's largest annual sporting event - and came to Kent on 8 July 2007. Over 200 top cyclists raced from London through Medway into the Heart of Kent past Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells and Ashford, before a thrilling finish in Canterbury.
Over 2 million spectators lined the route in Kent. There were literally hundreds of street parties, with thousands of gallons of local Kent beer drunk in pubs, bars and Cafés lining the route. Spectators jostled to get the freebies handed out by the 200-vehicle cavalcade of promotional vehicles as it travelled ahead of the race. Thousands flocked to the sprint points at Teston and Tenterden, and the King of the Mountains at Quarry Hill and Farthing Common, in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with fabulous views over the south east Kent and the English Channel.
