Elham Valley Vineyard
Elham Valley Vineyard is set among fields within the Kent Downs Area of Oustanding Beauty a mile south of Barham on the B2065 Canterbury-Hythe road. The first vines were planted here in 1979, and the 2500 bottles produced annually are made from three white grapes varieties - Muller Thurgau, Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc.
Since 1995 the vineyard has been run by the Vale of Elham Trust, which was established as a charity in that year to provide work and recreational opportunities in the East Kent area for adults with learning disabilities. The Trust's workers are responsible for all aspects of the business. Tours of the vineyards and wine tastings can be arranged, and visitors will find a number of other attractions, including a plant centre, a shop selling wine and crafts, and a tea room serving home baking, light lunches and cream teas.
