As well as teams including Australia, Slovenia, Portugal, Nepal, Barbados, Ukraine and Belarus basing themselves in Kent as part of their pre-Olympic training, the county has some top-class sporting facilities and numerous sporting events for you to enjoy!

 

Kent Hosts the Paralympics! 

Brand Hatch in Sevenoaks, Kent will be home to the Paralympics in 2012! The riders will race around a course that passes through the Kent county and the district of Sevenoaks in Kent. The former F1 Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch will be the base of approximately half of the course including the start and finish. The remaining race will take place on local roads nearby. Grab a slice of Olympic action and watch one of the incredible races - tickets are a bargain at £10 each and part of the route will be free to spectators.

 

British Transplant Games

The Westfield Health British Transplant Games are organised on behalf of the Transplant Sport UK (TSUK) and are staged annually in a different UK city. This year the Games will be held in Medway and North Kent with a focus on Medway Park in Gillingham.

The British Transplant Games are one of the largest multi-sport events in the UK and with over 700 competitors taking part in sports such as athletics, swimming, rackets, golf and volleyball to name but a few.

The Games will run from 23 to 26 August, between the end of the Olympic Games and the start of the Paralympic Games.

Paralympic Roadshow

In the 17 days between the end of the London 2012 Olympic Games and the start of the London 2012 Paralympic Games there will be a Paralympic Roadshow travelling around Kent offering people a chance to see and use some of the Paralympic sporting equipment and maybe meet a Kent Paralympian! The Kent Paralympic Roadshow will be calling at the following venues: 

•Adizone, River Front, Gravesend - Tuesday 14 August
•Cyclopark, Gravesend - Wednesday 15 August
•Swanley Recreation Ground - Thursday 16 August
•Ashford Retail Outlet, Ashford - Friday 17 August
•Leisure Centre, Dover - Saturday 18 August
•Maidstone United Football Ground, Maidstone - Monday 20 August
•Hop Farm, Paddock Wood - Tuesday 21 August
•Tunbridge Wells town centre and Calverley Gardens - Wednesday 22 August
•Medway Park Sports Centre, Gillingham - Thursday 23 August

Euro 2012

For those footballing fans that have been unable to make the trip to Poland and Ukraine for the 2012 Football European Championship do not worry, because live sites have been announced in Dover and Chatham. Support your national team's progression in the tournament whilst enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of your community coming together to share in this special sporting occassion. The sites will be up from the 8th June when Euro 2012 officially kicks off.

Sporting Venues in Kent

Kent is bursting with top-class sporting facilities on offer, all of which will be holding events in the run up to and during the Olympics. Kent County Cricket Club has been around since 1842 and it is now a highly successful club offering wonderful opportunities to spectate and drink up the excited atmosphere of matches, as well as to play cricket. Gillingham FC is Kent's only Football League team, who's home games are played at Priestfield Stadium. However, Kent is also the home to Maidstone United, Ebbsfleet United and Dartford FC who frequently hosts professional as well as friendly matches.

Or, for all equine fanatics, there is Folkestone Racecourse, designed to give you a real buzz with a day at the races. Not to mention, Brands Hatch, for those who prefer four wheels to four legs. It is not only home to the Paralympics in 2012, but an exciting motor racing venue with car festivals and burning rubber galore!
