Faversham
The market town of Faversham sits on a navigable creek running off the Swale and the recently opened Creek Creative is a focal point for visual and performing artists and other creative people. Housed in a converted joinery, just a stone's throw from the creek it has studio, exhibition and performance spaces and plans a variety of events for the future including art exhibitions and creative workshops.
With over 500 listed buildings and a large conservation area plus stunning countryside and creek side walks it's a great place to be inspired to draw or paint or even write a poem or a play. William Shakespeare visited as an actor and we all know how well he did!
Home to the Shepherd Neame Brewery, the town hosts the annual Faversham International Hop Festival. In 2010 it takes place on 4th and 5th September and provides an opportunity to relive the hop-picking experience with entertainment that includes live music, world renowned street theatre, dancing and colourful processions. Like the hop pickers you'll have the opportunity to exchange stories, scandals and songs and to enjoy concerts and ceilidhs, exhibitions and craft stalls. The festival will also include a free exhibition, A Year in the Life of Faversham which shows the Faversham of today in photos taken by local people and visitors. An image of local resident Sir Bob Geldof will be included in the exhibition.
