Being coastal there is also a strong maritime heritage here as well, with Sandwich being one of the original Cinque Ports. This area is also popular with cyclists - National cycle route 1 passes through Deal and Sandwich on its way to Canterbury and there are several local bike hire options and plenty of flat routes enabling you to discover many off the beaten track areas.
