Classical Kent

Kent is a county that offers so much to so many, and whilst some seek the excitement and atmosphere of popular music festivals, others choose the natural ambience found at more traditional events.

For those who appreciate tradition and quality, you will be spoilt for choice, but there are one or two that need to go into your ‘must-do' list, as they will give you a true flavour of Classic Kent. One of the annual highlights of the summer is the Kent County Show held at the showground near Maidstone.

In July Rochester Castle will be the venue for the most beautiful and soul-stirring music performed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert and Proms orchestras in the superb Castle Proms. In August, it's the turn of Leeds Castle as Bizet's Carmen is brought to life in the Big Top, followed by the ever-popular family proms.

October sees a celebration of traditional folk song, music and dance at Tenterden's famous folk festival. Come to the ancient Wealden town, and lose yourself in the traditions of yesteryear.
