Elham Walkers Are Welcome
Following the success of the first Elham Valley Walking Festival last year, the Elham Walkers Are Welcome group are pleased to announce the programme for this year’s Walking Festival. www.elhamvalleywalkingfestival.co.uk
The packed programme runs on Saturday 17th June and Sunday 18th June, the walks vary in length and difficulty.
Amble along peaceful footpaths nestled in between hedgerows, woodland and a patchwork of fields revealing quintessentially Kentish views of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
For those that feel like a real challenge, there is a 22 ½ mile walk along the Elham Valley Way from Hythe to Canterbury, passing through ancient woodlands, secret byways and unspoilt villages. A slightly less strenuous option is the 8 mile circular walk which takes in the spectacular panoramic views from the North Downs over the English Channel, incorporating light refreshments at the Cat & Custard Pot pub.
Step back in time by strolling through Elham with a guide from Elham’s Historical Society, learning about the history of the buildings and people, a light 1 mile circular walk around the village spread over an hour and a half. There is a fun Children’s Walk suitable for families (though not suitable for pushchairs) along the Elham Valley Way from Elham to Lyminge with treasures to hunt for along the way. There are also walks through Kingston Woods, Old Bladbean Stud Gardens and Park Gate Nature Reserve.
The Elham Walkers are Welcome group meet monthly for walks in and around the Valley, and are delighted to be hosting such a wide variety of walks over one weekend, travelling through the spectacular scenery and fascinating history of the Elham Valley.
