2012 Transport Update for Kent

2012 will be a year of celebration for Britain, and Kent makes the ideal base for a visit or short break throughout the year. With excellent access to and from London and mainland Europe, we wanted to keep you up to date with all the latest transport news and information you require when planning your trips to Kent. Here is an update from each of our key transport providers.

Southeastern

During the Olympic Games (27th July to 12th August) Southeastern will be operating a Javelin shuttle service using high speed trains from St Pancras International and Ebbsfleet International Stations to the Olympic Park in Stratford. Five trains per hour will run between these stations, with a further two departures from Ashford International each hour and one departure an hour from Faversham. Ebbsfleet International Station is one of the official 'Park and Rail' Services and just 10 minutes by high-speed rail link into the centre of the Olympic Park. Mainline services will run as normal from Monday to Saturday with a number of enhancements on selected services, for example an increase in carriage numbers and an extension of services on certain lines. Sunday services will operate as an amended Saturday service with a few exceptions.

During the Paralympic Games, Southeastern will operate a full normal timetable with enhancements to high-speed services.

For the rest of 2012, a normal timetable will operate with business as usual.

Eurotunnel

Eurotunnel reports that 2012 is "business as usual" for the Calais to Folkestone shuttle service. Tickets for the summer of 2012 are already on sale in order to anticipate the level of demand expected and allow for any service modifications if required. Eurotunnel has plenty of capacity and is able to offer up to four departures an hour.

Ferry Operators - SeaFrance, DFDS Seaways and P&O Ferries

Each of the cross channel ferry operators report that there will be a normal service throughout 2012 and during the Olympic Games they will all be able to offer the flexibility to increase capacity if there is demand. Please follow the links for more information on each of our ferry crossing partners.

Kent Highway Services

Kent Highway Services is currently putting together a Transport Plan for Kent during 2012 which will be available for consultation in July. The document will outline plans for Kent's highways in 2012 to prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, in order to reduce congestion and roadworks across the county. In addition, plans for possible 'Park and Ride' schemes are being considered to reduce congestion during this period.

Explore our garden in 2012

The Garden of England will be the number one destination for visitors who wish to be close to the Olympics taking place in nearby London. Moreover, there is also the opportunity to make Kent Your Garden and participate in the many celebrations and festivals taking place throughout the year at some of the county's best-loved attractions and locations.
