Pedal Power in the Garden of England

In Kent, cycling holidays become car-free, carefree two-wheeled adventures. Expect stunning routes, largely flat, big-sky landscapes, and tranquil country lanes. Making Kent perfect for a weekend break or longer sessions in the saddle.

For an iconic ride, peddle the Tudor Trail from Tonbridge Castle to Penshurst Place, the route meanders beside the River Medway. A 5-mile jaunt weaves from impressive 11th century Tonbridge Castle, through woodland and a country park to fortified medieval manor house Penshurst Place, before heading on towards majestic Hever Castle

The flat, 5-mile Isle of Harty Trail is a family-friendly spin through the Isle of Sheppey past beaches, bird reserves, reed beds and the welcoming Ferry House Inn, that reveals the isle's rich aviation history on the way.

If you like your cycling with blockbuster sights and seafood try the Crab and Winkle Way.  This 7.5 mile, mostly traffic-free cycle route heads from Cathedral-city Canterbury, through woodland and an RSPB reserve to the seafood restaurants and funky shops of Whitstable.

Then there's the 27-mile Viking Coastal Trail around the Isle of Thanet. Encounter spectacular seascapes and skies, re-charge on pristine beaches, cool off in the sparkling sea, then explore historic sites and vibrant resorts. Do this looped trail in stages, or just cherry-pick a shorter stretch.

For adrenaline-fuelled adventures try the wooded mountain bike trails of Bedgebury Forest, near Royal Tunbridge Wells; hire bikes from Quench Cycles. Or there's the challenging BMX tracks of Cyclopark, near Dartford. Or maybe jump on the latest craze of electric bikes, with guided tours from the UK Electric Bike Centre

Great rail connections and plenty of cycle hire points near the key routes mean you can even leave the car at home if you choose.
